Impact of Information Disorder on Political Decision-Making in Nigeria

Access to reliable information is central to informed decision-making and democratic stability. When information is accurate and trustworthy, it empowers citizens, institutions, and markets. When distorted by misinformation, disinformation, or malinformation, it weakens public judgment and undermines political and social outcomes. In highly polarised environments, the consequences extend beyond individual misunderstanding to broader risks for democratic integrity. This study examines how information disorder shapes political decision-making in Nigeria. Drawing on survey evidence from Nigerian citizens, it seeks to strengthen empirical understanding, close gaps in existing research, and inform practical responses to the growing challenges posed by false and manipulative information.
