Introduction
The Lake Chad Basin conflict is a complex and long-standing conflict that primarily affects the Lake Chad region in Africa. The conflict involves Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon, countries that share the Lake Chad Basin, as well as non-state armed groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Multiple overlapping dynamics, including insurgency, terrorism, communal violence, and resource scarcity, characterise the conflict. There is a lot of tension and instability and they have been caused by several factors, one of which is the constant spread of false information through social media and local communities.
This study aims to uncover the primary sources, methods, and harmful effects of disinformation related to the conflict by involving an in-depth analysis of the main sources of disinformation, disinformation tactics, and the efforts made to combat these sources to minimise their impact.
